It's a good start.  My experience with other renderers is that your best bet, with skin, is to set the scattering colour to something redder than the expected final skin tone (something like blood), and the surface diffuse colour to something greyer, greener, or yellower than the final expected skin tone (something like that of an exsanguinated corpse).
